Fabregas demonstrates his quality
On the day when two legendary former Chelsea midfielders were once again present at Stamford Bridge it was current midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas who produced a man of the match display against Swansea City.
Frank Lampard was presented to the crowd following his retirement from professional football earlier this month whilst Claude Makelele was sitting in the dugout in his current role as part of Swansea’s coaching staff. Lampard, who is Chelsea’s all-time leading goal scorer, would have been impressed by Fabregas’ all-round display which demonstrated his vision, intelligence and technical prowess.
The Spaniard opened the scoring after he poked a scruffy finish into the back of the net following a Lampard-esque late run into the eighteen yard box and also hit the post in the second half. His vision and range of passing provided Chelsea with real quality in central midfield areas and it was little surprise to see the 29-year-old provide the assist for Pedro’s strike which reinstated the hosts lead.
It was perfect way for Febregas to celebrate his 300th Premier League appearance.
