Gunners equal unwanted record
The 3-1 defeat to West Brom on Saturday means that Arsenal have now lost four of their last five Premier League matches, doing so for the first time in almost 22 years (April 1995).
This run has come at the worst possible time for Arsene Wenger – with two heavy Champions League defeats sandwiched between – and if results don’t pick up they are beginning to look the favourites to miss out on the top four, potentially sitting eight points behind fourth on Sunday after Liverpool play.
Despite having 77% of possession, and completing almost four times as many passes as their opponents, the visitors could only muster two shots on target – one of which was easy for Ben Foster.
The lack of creativity and vision in the final third was much down to Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott, with the latter only completing 15 passes all match, creating zero chances and zero attacking runs. This is the problem with Arsenal’s side; it seems they rely on the pedigree of Sanchez too often to dig them out of holes, and too often other attacking options simply don’t turn up like at The Hawthorns.
With matches against Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United to come before the end of the season, it could become too much to ask for Wenger’s side in their hunt for Champions League football again.
