Sanchez proves to be the bright spark again
It was the case of another game but same old story for Arsenal on Saturday as attacking talisman Alexis Sanchez was yet again the stand-out man for the visitors, impressing despite the end result.
Playing on the left-wing for the test of West Brom he found himself in acres of space for Arsenal’s goal, having the composure to delay his shot, avoiding the tackle, and dispatching high into the net.
Sanchez’s finish also brought up a personal milestone, taking his involvement in Arsenal goals to 100 (64 goals, 36 assists) since his arrival at the Emirates, as well as ensuring he has now been involved in 27 goals in 27 games this season.
Unfortunately for the Chilean, the likes of Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott decided to take a day off on the field and he had to try and produce creativity in Arsenal’s attacking play by himself; a task which even for someone with the talent of Sanchez is tough to carry out without sufficient support.
Sanchez was electric during the first-half, completing 100% of his attempted take-ons and creating one chance alongside his nicely-taken equaliser, but it was clear to see that the 28-year-old was struggling after coming out worse from a crunching James McClean tackle at the end of the first-half.
Arsenal fans – as well as Arsene Wenger – will be hoping that the enforced substitution of Sanchez late in the game isn’t anything too serious, otherwise, their top-four hopes could continue to derail.
