Zlatan Ibrahimovic has dispelled the doubters

The signing of Ibrahimovic on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain polarised opinion. Nobody questioned his pedigree, but many though that, in the autumn of his career, he would be unable to replicate his prolific goalscoring form in a division as competitive as the Premier League. Those doubts have now been dismissed.

His goal against Sunderland was the 35-year-old’s 12th in 17 matches, despite having endured something of a drought earlier in the campaign. The Swede is enjoying life in Manchester and has already indicated he would gladly extend his stay for a second season, resisting the riches available in China.

But it’s not just Ibrahimovic’s goals that are benefiting the team – he also has two assists to his name and is beginning to forge a formidable relationship with world-record signing Paul Pogba. Their understanding was a key feature against beleaguered Sunderland and one that looks like only getting better the more they play together.
