Set pieces continue to give Jurgen Klopp a headache

For all their attacking flair, the Reds were very close to having to share the spoils at Anfield on Saturday evening. When Gareth Macauley poked home from a corner after confusion when the ball came into the box in the 80th minute, it led to a nervy final ten minutes at Anfield.

Klopp will have known the threat that the Baggies represent from set pieces, and with his first choice backline on display he would have hoped that they would be able to deal with the threat. Set pieces have been a problem for Liverpool going back to the Brendan Rodgers era, but despite improvements under the German they remain a vulnerability.

On this occasion, Liverpool held on and saw out their win, which may be a sign of the kind of improvements that could put them into contention for the Champions League or even the title, but if they really are to compete then they will have to cut out this weakness which has seen them ocncede two goals in their past three games in similar circumstances with just one clean sheet this season.
