Koeman could be the right manager to get the best from Ross Barkley

The 22-year-old has had a difficult start to the season, being dropped from the England squad and getting hooked at half-time against Sunderland. However, he bounced back strongly with an excellent performance against Middlesbrough.

He was a constant threat, completing two successful dribbles and 92% of his passes. Barkley linked up play superbly and played two key passes in attack, while he also had four shots on goal. It was a great attacking performance and Koeman’s decision to keep him in the side paid dividends.

In his post-match interview, Koeman talked about Barkley’s maturity and how he can deal with public criticism. He is now not a young player and his new manager plans to treat him as such with honesty about his performances. The midfielder has come through the ranks at the club and is now at an age where he needs to add consistency to his game.

Barkley has responded to Koeman’s management and if he manages to play at this level on a weekly basis, he will be back in the England squad sooner rather than later.
