Idrissa Gueye could be one of the signings of the summer
He joined Everton as their first outfield addition of the summer and some fans were underwhelmed after being linked with Axel Witsel in the same position. They can be forgiven for their doubts about bringing in a player who featured prominently for Aston Villa in one of the worst Premier League campaigns of all time. However, he showed his ability on Saturday with a man-of-the-match performance. His work rate and relentless running seemed to rub off on his team-mates, while getting into the faces of the Tottenham players in the process.
Only N’Golo Kante won more tackles and completed more interceptions than Gueye last season. The Everton midfielder is likely to be up there again as one of the best at retrieving the ball. Against Tottenham, he made seven tackles and made two interceptions. He also showed his on-the-ball ability, with an impressive close ball control and a pass accuracy of 81.6%. Although he flew under the radar last season because he was playing for Aston Villa, Gueye was a great piece of business by Everton and he could be one of the best signings made this summer.
