Could a defeat spell the end for Slaven Bilic?
The Croatian is very charismatic and has established himself as one of the media favourites since the start of last season. However, this is a results business and West Ham are only just above the relegation zone. A defeat could mean that the Hammers drop into the bottom three and that could be enough to convince the owners to part ways with Bilic. There was hope that West Ham would mark the first season in their new stadium with a top eight finish. A relegation fight would be disastrous and they need to climb the table sooner rather than later.
Their upcoming fixtures don’t make for good reading and it could be the perfect time to make the managerial change before the January transfer window. The defence has looked poor this season and there are doubts about whether Bilic is the right man to fix that. Based on the squad alone, West Ham are underachieving and they need to decide whether their current manager can turn the team’s fortunes around. It looks like the players are still behind him, but a loss this weekend will increase the pressure even further.
