The fitness of Alexis Sanchez
After rumours of a serious injury contracted on international duty, Sanchez has said that he is fit to play against Manchester United. It was suggested that he had picked up a thigh injury that could keep him out for a number of weeks, but the Chilean managed to play against Uruguay and score twice. This will give encouragement to the Arsenal fans as Sanchez is a key part to how they play and it would be a major blow if he was to miss any amount of Premier League action.
Arsene Wenger will be less satisfied by Sanchez’s statement and will be cautious when it comes to selection for this weekend. He will be aware at how easy it is to put too much stress on a player’s body, especially if they have suffered a minor injury recently. Sanchez may have been able to play for Chile, but that isn’t to say that there is no problem with his thigh. The attacker will be fully assessed when he returns to Arsenal and if Wenger isn’t happy with the medical report, Sanchez won’t travel to Old Trafford. Firstly, it will be interesting to see whether the Chilean is named in the squad on Saturday. If he is selected, keep an eye on his movement and his contributions to the game. Throughout his Arsenal career, Sanchez has been through a few bad periods of form and a lot of those have been due to him not being fully fit.
