Three things that we learnt: Tottenham 0-1 Bayer Leverkusen

Tottenham will regret signing Moussa Sissoko

The Frenchman may have made more tackles than any of his team-mates, but his overall performance was appalling. He kept giving the ball away and wasted several promising situations, which will have disappointed Pochettino. The Frenchman is working hard, something that he didn’t always do at Newcastle, but it is becoming clear that he doesn’t possess the quality to play for a side with Tottenham’s ambitions. He was one of the attacking players and was majorly to blame for his side’s failure to create clear cut chances.

It was an odd signing from Tottenham as they spent big on a player that scored only one league goal for relegated Newcastle last season and that came on the final day after the club were relegated – ironically against Spurs. His character has been called into question and he couldn’t recover from a poor start against Leverkusen. For a £30 million price tag, Tottenham have the right to expect a lot better from Sissoko, but this writer doesn’t believe he has the ability to turn it around.
