Burnley need to strengthen in January or relegation is inevitable
They have now lost all of their away games and today’s goal was their first on the road this season. The players work hard for the manager, but work rate isn’t enough to keep them in this league alone. That was shown during their last season in the Premier League and the general quality of the league has increased since then. It was obvious that their squad wasn’t strong enough after promotion and the talent levels only increased a small amount over the summer.
Steven Defour was their only major addition and he has had a positive impact, but he was forced off with an injury today and was clearly missed thereafter. In January, they need to bring in another three or four players with a similar talent level to Defour, or they will be relegated come the end of the season. They have the money to spend and now the board must show some ambition to help the club become established in the Premier League.
