Ilkay Gundogan could be the signing of the summer

The German had been linked to the Premier League for a number of years before joining Manchester City this summer. It was a deal that was done early in the window, showing that Pep Guardiola was eager to get him on board and he is beginning to show why. He is an excellent fit for the Spaniard’s system and he has added an extra dimension to Manchester City’s play since returning from injury.

When his side is out of possession, Gundogan is excellent at retrieving the ball, as he showed on Tuesday night. He pressed relentlessly, finishing the match with three completed tackles and three successful interceptions. His reading of the game means that he is often quicker to react than others on the pitch and City will be hoping that he can stay fit for the remainder of the season. After his brace at the weekend, he continued his goal-scoring with another two goals against Barcelona. He could be the signing of the summer if he continues to play like this.
