There is hope for Karanka and Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League and have had a difficult start to the campaign which has seen them floating dangerously close to the relegation zone.

However, this result moves them up to 14th in the table and means that they are unbeaten in their last three matches, including two away draws at Arsenal and Manchester City.

Despite having to hang in for the opening forty five minutes of the game Aitor Karanka will have taken great pleasure from his team’s much improved performance during the second half.

Middlesbrough emerged from the interval with a more positive mentality, choosing to go toe-to-toe with their hosts, and very few people would argue that they did not deserve their late equaliser on their showing during the second period.

The visitors produced a repeat performance of the defensive heroics shown at Arsenal two weeks previously, with Valdes in inspired form in goal, but were also able to offer a greater threat going forward.

Middlesbrough will still face a tough season attempting to stave off relegation and it is games against sides around them in the table that will ultimately determine their fate, however, supporters should take great hope from their current form and recent performances.
