United held once again at Old Trafford
Another home fixture against a side in the bottom half of the Premier League, another frustrating draw for Manchester United.
After stalemates against Burnley and Hull City since the start of the season stalled United’s top four challenge, Bournemouth proved to be another opponent that Jose Mourinho’s side couldn’t see off.
United had 20 shots on goal against the Cherries on Saturday, creating 18 chances and putting 41 crosses into the box – but they still couldn’t find a way past Artur Boruc in the Bournemouth goal.
Not only did Saturday’s draw stop United from entering the top four for the first time since September, it also means that seven of the Reds’ last 11 games at Old Trafford have been draws; it’s this pattern that has stopped them from challenging higher up in the Premier League table.
One man who personified United’s frustrating afternoon is Paul Pogba, who was involved in almost every attacking move during the hosts’ push for victory in the second half. The 23-year-old midfielder made the most completed passes (73) at Old Trafford as well as the most misplaced passes (17) in a tough afternoon for Mourinho’s side; and it was Pogba that missed a wonderful chance in the 95th minute to volley in a winner, instead, missing the ball completely from six-yards.
