Three things learnt from Liverpool’s thrashing of Everton in the Merseyside Derby

Sadio Mane could be a big miss for Liverpool

In a nasty fall in the second half, Mane appeared to do damage to both his knee and his ankle which looked serious. Post-match, Jurgen Klopp suggested that it wasn’t as bad as first feared, with Mane not requiring crutches when leaving the ground, but that he would miss the mid-week clash with Bournemouth.

Mane was once again superb for the Reds, opening the scoring with a fine finish into the corner of the net past Joel Robles and showed his vast importance. With Adam Lallana, who replaced him on the right whilst he was away at the African Cup of Nations, also out injured, it could give Klopp another injury headache to deal with.

The positive for the German will be the impact of his replacement, Divock Origi, as he added a third with a great strike, but the Belgian will need to reproduce his best form to help his club maintain the pressure at the top of the table.
