Cahill goes from villain to hero
The England defender must have thought it wouldn’t be his afternoon when he was adjudged to have pushed Walters, which resulted in the penalty from which Stoke equalised. It looked a harsh decision and Cahill would have been fuming at being penalised for what he thought was a fair challenge. He claimed his redemption later in the match, though, with the winning goal, which means Chelsea have now won 20 of their past 23 matches in all competitions. Cahill has a knack for scoring important goals and is always a nuisance from corners with his physicality and power. He was in the right place at the right time to emphatically bury the ball past Grant after Cesc Fabregas’ delivery had not been cleared. Cahill, an unheralded member of Chelsea’s impressive defence, celebrated like a man who realised the importance of his goal in ensuring the title chasers remain a healthy margin behind the Blues, who are in unstoppable form.
