Swansea slipping back into trouble

The appointment of Paul Clement had the desired effect as Swansea, who were rock bottom when the former Derby manager took over, climbed out of the relegation zone with crucial victories over the likes of Liverpool and Southampton. Complacency cannot afford to creep in though because they are definitely not out of danger.

Clement would have been hoping that successive matches against Hull City and Bournemouth would enhance their survival prospects. Instead, it has worsened them, with two consecutive defeats seeing them drop to 17th, only three points clear of the drop-zone. They cannot afford to rely on the three teams below them failing to pick up the required points – the Swans need to take matters into their own hands and win enough games to stay up. Next up for them is a critical fixture against fellow strugglers Middlesbrough after the international break. Clement has two weeks to work his magic.
