Craig Shakespeare deserves to be manager
Not to exaggerate the achievement of winning just two matches, but the stand-in manager appears to be an ideal candidate.
Leicester’s priority for the remainder of the season is surviving relegation, and Shakespeare has shown an ability to get better performances from an underwhelming side.
As a short-term fix, at least, the club do much worse than maintaining some sort of stability, by handing Claudio Ranieri’s no.2 the top job.
I disagree with the notion that his fate hinged on this gamed against Hull, as suggested in the Guardian. At least that shouldn’t have been the case. But if that was true, having won two out of two games, while scoring six goals on the way, will have done his chances no harm.
The Guardian article also cites how Shakespeare has the backing of the majority of both fans and players. This provides unity that will be crucial in securing Premier League survival, especially after the contentious and divisive sacking of Ranieri.
Sticking with the man who knows the players, has his side looking more like last season’s (in style and performance, not just personnel) and who has the respect of an increasingly frustrated fan base, sounds like a sensible option.
Shakespeare should discover his fate on Thursday, when meeting the board, following a short warm-weather training trip to Dubai.
