Wenger’s side suffered the consequences of three red cards in last season’s two league meetings, and they cannot afford to handicap themselves again. Gabriel’s red card at Stamford Bridge was, though harsh, completely avoidable. The Brazilian allowed himself to be wound up by Diego Costa’s antics. In Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi, Arsenal should have two cool heads at the back who won’t rise to the bait. The Emirates crowd will be on Costa’s back and this will wind him up even more than usual. The Gunners have to be cute and rise above any of his attempts to get them into trouble. Chelsea are past masters at getting around referees in these big games, and Arsenal’s senior players need to make sure they get their version of events across just as vociferously.
