Three surprise packages at Newcastle United this season
Newcastle United struggled to get going in 2018/19, but three wins on the spin saw them pull away from the relegation zone.
Rafa Benitez is doing a fine job once again given the little investment he has received from owner Mike Ashley.
It’s been a big collective effort from the players, but who are the surprise packages for the Magpies so far this season?
Martin Dubravka
Dubravka impressed during his loan spell for Newcastle last season. He had a fantastic debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and was solid for the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign.

The only question was whether Dubravka would be able to continue his form as a permanent signing.
The Slovakian stopper has easily been one of the best in the division, which is a surprise given how many great goalkeepers there are in the Premier League.
Federico Fernandez
What a signing Federico Fernandez has been.
Acquired for just £6 million from relegated Swansea City, the Argentine has been one of the bargains of the season.

Not much was expected from Fernandez as he didn’t particularly stand out for a poor Swansea side, but he’s proven his worth inside four months for Newcastle.
Mohamed Diame
Diame has been in good form for Newcastle this year, but he hasn’t always come in for the praise that some of his performances have perhaps warranted.

Diame has made the joint-fifth most number of successful tackles so far with 49.
His combativeness in midfield has been excellent. Sometimes his passing can be askew, but he does an important job for Rafa Benitez.
