Bruno Soriano (Villarreal and Spain)
One of the lesser-known players in a star-studded Spain squad, the defensive midfielder known simply as ‘Bruno’ would be a sensible signing if the likes of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb are allowed to move.
The Spaniard has proven himself to be a fantastic player for Villarreal, with both his defensive capabilities and ability to pick a pass meaning he is one of few naturally defensive Spanish midfielders, but also one that fits into the possession based game that has typified Spanish football in the last few years.
Whilst, aged 32, his best years may be behind him, the veteran’s experience of playing at the top level in Spain and in European competitions would again be a fantastic addition to the squad – the current raw talent in the form of Eric Dier would benefit hugely from playing and training alongside Bruno.
Should the Spaniard be convinced to swap Villarreal for North London, Spurs could offer him the possibility of playing Champions League football – a tournament that his current side did not qualify for – as well as opportunities to play Premier League football.
Whilst it is difficult to see Bruno usurping either of Eric Dier or Mousa Dembele in the starting eleven, Spurs’ weaknesses in the 2015/16 season were exacerbated by a lack of squad depth, especially in key positions, and the signing of Bruno would go some way to solving this issue in the defensive midfield role.
