With Euro 2016 now in full flight, and with the knockout rounds looming, some players have made quite an impression at the tournament and look certain to go on to greater things after its conclusion.
One only has to look at the meteoric rise of James Rodriguez after his performances at the 2014 World Cup to see what a major tournament can do for a player’s career, and these three players should look at Spurs as a place they can potentially match the Columbian’s success in the coming years.
With Mauricio Pochettino reportedly keen to add strength to the ranks as his side face the challenge of European football next season, these names could be on his radar.
The Croatian has put in some fantastic performances with the Croatian national team this summer, scoring their first goal in the eventful 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic, and receiving praise for his performance against Turkey when the Croatians won 1-0, with Perisic hitting the bar with a header after former Spur Luka Modric scored what proved to be the winner with a spectacular volley.
Perisic’s work ethic, versatility and technical ability would all suggest that he would suit the playstyle that Spurs have established under Pochettino, and his experience in both Germany’s Bundesliga, with first Borussia Dortmund and then Wolfsburg, and Italy’s Serie A with Inter Milan, would add another dimension that the current crop of Spurs youngsters are lacking.
Perisic is a dynamic, attacking player, and could play anywhere in the attacking four positions that Pochettino employs within the 4-2-3-1, providing competition and depth in those places that was sorely missed last season.
