Three stand-out performers Newcastle should target from Euro 2016

James Chester

Ocer his career, the Welshman has looked good in the Championship so far, and could attract a lot of interest this summer. He didn’t enjoy a great season with West Brom last term and was even booed by his own supporters at times.

Chester only played 13 times in the league, with many of the appearances coming at left back, which hardly his favoured position despite his renowned defensive versatility. Chester was very good for Hull City in the previous season and will have been surprised by the lack of impact he had at the Hawthorns.

It is believed that West Brom would be open to selling the defender, and Newcastle are believed to be on the look-out for at least one new centre-back. He would be very good in the Championship and we have seen before that he can be effective in the top flight.

Benitez is believed to be looking for leaders, and whether Chester fits into that profile is up for debate. However, he has proven himself to be a very good centre-half for Wales in their opening three matches, and he would provide excellent competition for Chancel Mbemba and Jamaal Lascelles, assuming the pair remain on Tyneside.
