Julian Baumgartlinger – Austria
Austria were many people’s dark horses for this tournament, and they haven’t been that great in the opening two matches.
However, one player to have impressed is the holding midfielder Julian Baumgartlinger, who has made 4.5 tackles and 2 interceptions per game in the Euros so far.
His positional play is very impressive and he reads the game well, as shown by the amount of interceptions he makes.
N’Golo Kante could be on his way out, and they may be looking to bring in a couple of midfielders to replace him.
Nampalys Mendy appears to be one, and the other could be Baumgartlinger.
At the age of 28, he is at the peak of his career and has the ability to do well in the Champions League, if given a chance.
He can be relied on to maintain possession, he tackles well and is good in the air.
He has shown his quality in the Euros so far and has been consistent for Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga for the last few seasons.
Plus, he wouldn’t cost a huge amount of money and would provide a further option in the midfield.
