Benedikt Howedes
Fans and pundits alike have called out for Wenger to sign more leaders who will drive the team on and with Arsenal having only two recognised central defenders in the squad, along with Mertesacker’s ageing legs, Benedikt Howedes would make perfect sense.
Captain of club side Schalke and operating in various positions in Germany’s 100% backline at Euro 2016, the 28-year old’s experience would add much needed leadership to what has been a relatively quaint Arsenal side in the past few years.
Howedes also has plenty of Champions League experience and with the German Bundesliga being a very physical league, the transition shouldn’t be too difficult.
