Cristian Tello
N’Koudou’s imminent transfer likely spells the end for Nacer Chadli’s time at White Hart Lane. The French youth international and Son are good options on the left wing, while Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli can also fill that role in a more fluid capacity. However, while replete with options on the left, Erik Lamela is the only natural Lilywhite right winger. N’Jie deputised in Lamela’s role before his injury, but the Cameroonian looks out of Poch’s plans and set for a move back to France. Spurs should entertain the idea of signing cover for Lamela with little forthcoming wing talent in the academy.
Either a loan or a permanent move for Barcelona starlet Cristian Tello would represent a low-risk option for Daniel Levy. Blessed with pace and capable of explosive, incisive runs, Tello offers a very different skill-set to that of Lamela. The Spanish international is on the fringes of Luis Enrique’s team, and even less likely to break through after the signing of Denis Suarez as attacking cover. Although not capable of the sustained brilliance of his Blaugrana colleagues, Tello’s wing play is a perfect foil for the predatory instincts of new striker Vincent Janssen. The two could team up together while Poch rests Kane and Lamela for midweek European clashes, and are more than capable of tearing apart Premier League rearguards.
Tello would be a good fit for Poch’s high octane system, although his touchline-hugging wing-play wouldn’t allow as many overlaps from the swashbuckling Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier. Unable to adapt to Fiorentina’s unconventional tactics under Paulo Sousa, the suffocating tactical nature of the Italian game blunted Tello’s raw talents. His style better suits the relentless intensity of the English game and the straightforward nature of Pochettino’s approach would be a breath of fresh air for the 24-year-old.
