Leroy Sane – Schalke
This is a transfer that seems highly likely to happen in the next month, with City heavily linked with the German in every major news source. The 20-year-old winger from Schalke made over 30 appearances last season, scoring eight goals in the process. His contract ends at the end of next season, and Schalke are reportedly asking for over £40 million for the winger – a price that City want to negotiate but would surely be affordable to them.
Sane was taken to the Euros with the German national team but failed to make a contribution, appearing only in the last few moments when Germany were trailing to France in the semi-final.
With Nolito already signed, Sane could prove to be significant in demonstrating Pep Guardiola’s thinking. Clearly, Pep feels City need a complete overhaul in terms of wingers, and this raises question marks over the futures of Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri. Raheem Sterling has already been told that he is in Pep’s plans but the signing of Sane could represent the view that pressure needs to be taken off the English winger.
At Bayern, Pep regularly used Douglas Costa to unlock teams, and Sane could become this player for his City team. Playing in a front-line with De Bruyne, Silva, Nolito and Aguero offers some seriously exciting attacking play. The youngster could develop into a very exciting winger, and developed by Pep Guardiola, he is the right hands.
