Eric Bertrand Bailly

Villarreal’s 22-year-old centre-half is quietly bubbling along as one of the best up-and-coming defenders in Europe. Bailly has not drawn the same level of acclaim as other young centre-backs such as Aymeric Laporte and Daniele Rugani, but he still boasts a tremendous amount of promise.

Eric Bertrand Bailly will have perhaps become recognised by scouts across the country when putting in an impressive performance at home to Liverpool until he was forced to leave the field of play due to injury. His speed across the ground was of great value during that match and kept Roberto Firmino out of the action, with his absence in the second leg at Anfield all too obvious. Liverpool’s forwards tore the previously defensively sound Spaniards apart without Bailly in their ranks, only emphasising his importance to a side which he has made 33 appearances for this season.

According to Whoscored, Bailly has been the man of the match on three occasions this term, suggesting that he has all of the defensive traits to slot in at the heart of The Foxes’ defence.

For Leicester City, Robert Huth and Marcin Wasilewski are well and truly approaching the end their respective careers, while Yohan Benalouane does not have the quality for the level that Leicester are aspiring to. Bailly would be a perfect partner to either Morgan or Huth, and is sure to only grow as a player under Claudio Ranieri.
