Three signings Arsenal fans would love the club to make on deadline day

After the signings of Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi, Arsenal have surely 99% completed their transfer business for the summer. The only real business that can happen now for Wenger is a young signing, or a massive shock piece of business on a big player who suddenly becomes available. It’s happened before – in terms of Mesut Ozil’s transfer from Real Madrid. With David Luiz on the verge of a sudden possible move to Chelsea, anything seems possible on transfer deadline day.

Here are three players that could make a sudden last ditch move to Arsenal before 11pm on Wednesday.

James Rodriguez

The Real Madrid player has seen his playing time come under increasing difficulty since the appointment of Zinedine Zidane. It seems he has been linked with almost every big club, with a fee of around £60 million discussed. All signs suggest James will stay at the club, but a sudden desire to play week in, week out at another club could see a mad scramble for his signature. James may decide Arsenal are the club for him. They don’t necessarily need an attacking midfielder – but when has that stopped Wenger before?

Antoine Griezmann

Reportedly chased by Arsenal earlier in the summer, Griezmann decided to stay in Spain. After Atletico’s poor start to the season by their standards, and Griezmann’s outburst that Atletico could be relegated, maybe their star player could decide to get out. The partnership he had with Olivier Giroud at the Euro’s offers an exciting thought at the possibility of what Arsenal could have, and surely Wenger would jump at the opportunity if the Frenchmen decided to leave Atletico. This would be a massive transfer if it were to happen, and one that would probably shock the whole of Europe.

Jose Gimenez

A young defender who was a target earlier in the summer, when Arsenal’s need for a defender was more of a pressing matter. With the signing of Mustafi, Arsenal’s need is less, but if an opportunity came up to rob Atletico of one of the upcoming centre-back stars, then perhaps Wenger would think about still doing a deal. Another Atletico player, who has experience and trophies already, it would be interesting to see if Arsenal can pull off a deal and bring the player over to England. It seems highly unlikely – but it’s still more exciting to think about than Jonny Evans.
