Three selection dilemmas for Marcelo Bielsa before Leeds United face Norwich City

Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United dropped points for the first time in 2018/19 as they traveled to Swansea on Tuesday evening, despite remaining unbeaten thanks to Pablo Hernandez’s equaliser against his former club.

Next up for the Whites is a trip to East Anglia to face Norwich City, who play Preston North End on Wednesday, and coach Bielsa may be considering changes to freshen up his team.

Here are some of the dilemmas he may face…

Is there a spot for Patrick Bamford?

The big, high profile, summer signing is yet to start a league fixture for his new team and that will only remain the situation for a certain amount of time. Having dropped points for the first time and after an impressive substitute performance by the ex-Middlesbrough man, he could get his chance.

Kemar Roofe may feel aggrieved to have been taken off having score for the third consecutive game, but Bamford claimed an assist when he set up Pablo Hernandez for the equaliser.

Are tired legs beginning to have an impact?

It is no secret that Bielsa’s high pressing game can lead to some tired legs, particularly when there are few changes to the team and midweek fixtures are coming thick and fast.

Dropping points may be representative of that catching up with some members of the team who just couldn’t quite keep up with the Swans as they looked to threaten on the counter.

Could Lewis Baker start?

Having come on as a substitute in all of Leeds’ league games to date, the Chelsea loanee may feel that he will soon get his chance from the start, as he did in the Carabao Cup when he claimed an assist.

Just who he could come in for remains unclear at present, but if Bielsa is to make changes then he may feel that Baker is one of the strongest options in reserve to come in.
