Three reasons why Manchester City remain Premier league favourites

1) It is widely expected that they will flex their considerable financial muscle.

Manchester City are expected to once again be extremely active in this Winter transfer window. Although several defensive additions have been made in the last couple of seasons they have conceded 21 goals in 20 league games and this is something fans will be hoping is addressed in this transfer window. One of the biggest problems for Pellegrini this campaign has been the injuries sustained by Vincent Kompany, their experienced club captain who has only managed nine league appearances this term. The 29-year-old Belgium international was ever present in the 2011/12 and 2013/14 seasons which saw him lift the league title on both occasions and this goes some way to highlighting his importance.

Another area that needs strengthening is in the centre forward position. No-one would argue against Sergio Aguero being one of the best and exciting strikers in world football, but much like Kompany he has struggled with his fitness this season. The tricky Argentine forward has only made 13 league appearances which saw him score eight times, in itself that is an impressive return. The problem is the cover for Aguero. City have a total of five strikers registered in their first team squad, however they decided to send both Stevan Jovetic (Inter Milan) and Edin Dzeko (AS Roma) out on loan which has definitely left the squad thin in this area.

In the absence of Aguero they have not found a solution. Wilfried Bony was expected to be their go-to man but has failed to impress this campaign. The Ivorian is still yet to live up to the £28 million price tag and has only four league goals to his name from his 17 league appearances, and a shot accuracy percentage of 46% which is nowhere near the standard you would expect from a striker in a team with title winning ambitions.
