He’s building a younger squad
Just having a young squad isn’t going to make Man City a better team, but Pep will know how to get the best out of these youngsters and give them the confidence they need to succeed. Last season, Manchester City had the third oldest squad in the league at 28.2 years old. Pep has made seven signings since taking over at Manchester City (including Olympic gold medalist Gabriel Jesus) and six of them are 25 and under. The Spaniard wants a young, fresh team full of talent and potential. Players such as John Stones and Leroy Sane, who have already cited Pep Guardiola as one of their reasons for joining Manchester City, fit the bill perfectly.
If Manchester City do win the title, it certainly won’t be an easy road to victory. Their biggest rivals, Manchester United, also look well equipped to win the league after making four shrewd signings and will push them all the way. Chelsea and their new manager Conte are not in Europe at all so they can focus all of their energy in a title challenge. Manchester City will face difficulties this season, as will every team but that’s why nothing great ever comes that easy.
