The sight of Alexis Sanchez, angry, depleted and looking tiresome, after a disappointing Arsenal result, has sadly been all too common this season. Most recently, after the 5-1 defeat against German champions Bayern Munich, the Chilean winger could be seen crouched down on the touchline as the final whistle blew, looking on to see the opposition players celebrating and his defeated team-mates trudging off the field. The Chilean was clearly a man in anguish, left frustrated at his, and Arsenal’s, current position.
However, no one can doubt Sanchez’s fight, determination, and passion. Alongside his world-class abilities, he has a tenacity, energy, and hunger – rare for a player of such calibre. This is perhaps why he paints such a disappointed figure after such a defeat; either he feels let down by the quality around him, or that those around him do not possess the same hunger as he does.
Reports this week have suggested that Chilean citizens have organized a march to protest Sanchez’s position at Arsenal, the motive being that Chileans are tired of seeing their star-man run tirelessly for his team while others stroll around and put minimal effort in.
