As Luke Shaw could be set to leave Manchester United this summer, according to the Mirror, The Boot Room looks at his potential suitors.
An injury ridden spell with United has seen him slip down the pecking order behind the likes of Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian and, on occasions, Ashley Young.
Even when fit he has been criticised for his work ethic and professionalism by manager Jose Mourinho. The 21-year-old looks ever more likely to leave United, but where will he end up?
Liverpool
The Reds are one of the chasers, as reported by the Mirror. Manchester United’s fierce rivals have been forced to play James Milner at left-back this season and although he has performed well, it’s not his conventional position and the Liverpool man is ageing.
Luke Shaw, at 21-years-old, represents a tonne of potential and would certainly provide an improvement on their current options. With Alberto Moreno set to leave this summer, as suggested by the Liverpool Echo, a new left-back is needed, and Luke Shaw could be the right candidate.
Manchester City
Manchester United’s other rivals Manchester City are also eyeing up the ex-Southampton man. City have looked suspects at times this season defensively, and Shaw could help solve that. Known for his offensive capabilities, the Englishman is also solid defensively.
Under Pep Guardiola’s attacking, possession-style City side he could thrive. Furthermore, Aleksander Kolarov is 31 years old and nearing the end of his City career while Gael Clichy is leaving once his contract expires.
Tottenham
The London side is another place Shaw could end up at, come the end of the transfer window. Tottenham, the only side to give Chelsea any real challenge in the Premier League title race, were a side who played some of the most attractive and efficient football at times this season.
Losing Danny Rose midway through the season was a huge blow, and much was made of the sides lack of squad depth. Luke Shaw would not only represent a fantastic squad player, but also someone who could battle Rose for a starting spot.
As Tottenham qualified for the Champions League again, while continuing to challenge domestically, squad depth is a necessity and in signing Luke Shaw Mauricio Pochettino would begin to acquire this.
