Southampton
The road from Southampton to Liverpool is well travelled, but Sturridge could head in the opposite direction. Claude Puel will be looking to make another addition to his forward line to provide competition for Charlie Austin, Nathan Redmond and Sofiane Boufal. Only Austin is a natural striker and another will be on the Southampton manager’s agenda in January. Jay Rodriguez has struggled to impress after his various injury problems and could find himself moved on if Southampton can secure a quality striker in January. They would certainly be interested in Sturridge if the striker is available and could use their good relationship with Liverpool to their advantage for a change.
This would be a move that could appeal to Sturridge as Southampton are a club that has achieved consistent success in the Premier League and are beginning to emerge as regulars in European competition. The main problem would be the price tag as Southampton don’t tend to pay huge fees for players, preferring to bring players in on the cheap and selling them on for a big profit. Also the Saints normally target players that are at the beginning of their career as there is an opportunity to sell them on for a big profit. At the age of 27, Sturridge may be too old for the powers that be at St Mary’s Stadium.
