Three players who could replace departing Arsenal ace Edu was 'pleased' to sign – TBR View
Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Runarsson could be set to leave the club just 12 months after joining the north London side.
As reported by the Express, the Icelandic international is inching towards a move to the Turkish Super Lig.
The 26-year-old made just six appearances in total for Arsenal. However, this was enough for both the club and player to agree that a transfer is the best solution this summer.
As per Football London, Edu was ‘pleased’ that Runarsson was signed last year to replace Emi Martinez.
Arsenal need a new goalkeeper this summer
Indeed, Runarsson’s performance against Manchester City in the League Cup was one that was heavily criticised by Arsenal supporters.
But the former Dijon star leaving north London leaves a huge void in the squad, that being a backup goalkeeper.
Whilst the Gunners are reportedly eager on signing a new number one this summer to replace Bernd Leno, who could also be leaving, a backup to the man between the sticks should be a venture that should not cost Arsenal too much money.
With that in mind, which three current free agents could Arsenal sign to replace Runarsson this summer?
A man on the radar for some clubs
The free agent market seemingly becomes littered with more quality players with each passing year, and Jerome Prior is no exception.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper spent last season in Ligue 2 with Valenciennes FC. And his performances have garnered some interest from big clubs.
As La Voix du Nord report via GFFN, the former Bordeaux star was the subject of interest from Saint-Etienne and an English club. And with Prior now a free agent, the Toulon-born star could be a reliable option for the Gunners this summer.
An experienced goalkeeper option for Arsenal
A member of Russia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup squad, Andrey Lunyov could be an intriguing option for Arsenal this summer. Especially if the Gunners want an experienced head to act as deputy goalkeeper.
A number one for the likes of FC Ufa and Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russian Premier League, Lunyov has a wealth of experience in both Europe and internationally for club and country.
Whilst Arsenal won’t be playing continental football for the first time in 26 years, the 29-year-old keeper would be good competition for Leno.
EFL loan star could be an answer
A familiar name to EFL fans and Football Manager players. Jamal Blackman heads into the transfer window as a free agent following his release from Chelsea.
The 27-year-old Croydon-born keeper might not have any top-flight experience after several loan spells across League One and the Championship. But Blackman could be a decent backup option for the League Cup next season for Arsenal.
With the Chelsea academy graduate also a homegrown player, it will save Arsenal a spot for a foreign star in their Premier League squad registration list for a name who will likely play more first-team football than Blackman.
