Jermain Defoe
West Ham have been heavily linked with a £6 million bid for Defoe in the national media these past few days – there is no surprise why.
Defoe, a former Hammer of course, is a proven goal-scorer at Premier League level, something Bilic’s side have been sorely lacking. They have netted only 19 goals in 17 matches this season.
Injuries to Andre Ayew, the big-money summer capture from Swansea, and Andy Carroll have significantly depleted their striking resources.
Six million pounds may sound a lot for a 34-year-old, but Defoe still has much to offer in the top-flight. Without his goals, Sunderland would have had little chance of avoiding relegation last season.
For that reason, the Black Cats will be reluctant to sell, but money talks and the Hammers may make an offer Sunderland can’t refuse.
