Moussa Sissoko
One man whose destiny seems far away from White Hart Lane next season is French international Moussa Sissoko, who has endured a woeful first season at Tottenham.
The fact that the 27-year-old signed for Spurs last summer on a five-year deal for £30 million seemed astonishing at the time after struggling at Newcastle, and this year hasn’t nearly justified that fee.
Good displays of power and speed for France at the European Championships must have swayed Mauricio Pochettino into a quick buy but Sissoko has shown none of that form during this season.
Making 25 Premier League appearances – but only awarded eight starts – the winger has looked a bit like a headless chicken whenever on the pitch this year, simply unable to keep up with the level of quality and consistency that the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Heung-Min Son possess.
The 27-year-old has failed to find the back of the net all year, only creating 20 chances from a wide area – less than defenders Danny Rose and Ben Davies – and has rarely made a dent in the opposition.
His lack of ability to track back and support his defence has been made clear too in Tottenham’s three-man defensive system, and he’s almost looked like his mind is elsewhere when on the field.
It must come to a point this summer where Pochettino cuts his losses with Sissoko and tries to claw back at least some of that huge £30 million fee, as it’s clear his future no longer lies in North London.
