Three players Manchester United should target during the January transfer window

Jose Mourinho may well have spent big in the summer transfer window, but it still seems that there are improvements to be made with his side falling behind the pace of the top four in the opening half of the season. The Red Devils have closed that gap in recent weeks but Mourinho will still want to add to his squad in January.

In defence, injuries have highlighted the poor quality options with Mourinho seemingly not convinced by Marcos Rojo or Phil Jones at first but having been forced to resort to them due to injuries to the likes of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling.

Further forwards, there are question marks over the futures of the likes of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial amongst others and they will need to be replaced at some point.

Here are three men who could improve the United team…

Victor Lindelof (Benfica)

With a move reportedly nearing completion, the 22-year-old is likely to be Mourinho’s first addition of the transfer window in January. The central defender has become well known and developed his own reputation as a no nonsense hard man at Benfica.

With 11 caps to his name already for Sweden, Lindelof is also good on the ball and has shown his quality in his team’s Champions League run in the first half of the season with the Portuguese side qualifying for the knock out stages, partly thanks to their superb defensive record led by Lindelof.

Whilst he may be young and have plenty left to learn, there is no doubting that few defenders in Europe have as much potential as this former Vasteras SK man, and with 185 first team games under his belt at such a young age, he may now be ready to fight for a first team place at Old Trafford.
