Koke
With Ilkay Gundogan set for a lengthy period on the side after picking up a season-ending cruciate injury against Watford last week, Guardiola is apparently looking at Atletico Madrid talisman Koke.
Guardiola has been an admirer of the Spaniard throughout his time spent managing Barcelona in La Liga, and the 24-year-old midfielder could be a perfect fit for City.
Koke, nominated for the Ballon d’Or award this year, has won the La Liga and Copa del Rey with Atletico, also reaching the Champions League final twice, so has the big game experience that is needed to come over to England and help City compete for the title.
The 24-year-old came through the Atletico academy system, and much like Gundogan is a creative player who is powerful enough to dominate in the middle of the park.
Spanish media have also echoed these reports about Guardiola’s interest in Koke, saying that the ex-Bayern Munich manager “admires his countryman for his consistency and technical ability as well as the versatility to play on both flanks or down the middle.”
The only issue would be Koke’s enormous buy-out clause, which was set by Atletico Madrid when he signed a new five-year deal in 2014, and could rise to £125 million – maybe too big even for City.
