Liverpool were said to have made a late bid to sign the American sensation in the summer, but Borussia Dortmund have since warned them off say the Liverpool Echo. Dortmund are understandably unlikely to allow him to leave easily, but it could be worth the fight.

The 18-year-old already has 18 appearances with eight assists and two goals to his name in the Bundesliga and has been likened to Raheem Sterling with his direct style of pace and skill when running at defences.

Given that he prefers to play on the right hand side of attack, he would be the perfect option to provide cover for Sadio Mane almost immediately with Mane off to the African Cup of Nations with Senegal in the coming weeks.
