Three players Liverpool should target during the January transfer window
Jurgen Klopp and his side may well have done far better than many hoped for in the first half of the Premier League campaign, but few would argue that there is room for improvement for the Reds in the January transfer window.
Defensively, the Anfield outfit have struggled with just five clean sheets from their first 17 games of the season. With Joel Matip struggling with injuries since August, cover is needed to avoid a reliance on the likes of an out of position Lucas Leiva.
Whilst going forwards the side may be deadly, Philippe Coutinho’s injury has highlighted the lack of depth in the squad, particularly out wide, something which will have to be dealt with to maintain their push for the title and the top four, and will be necessary in the summer to prepare for European football.
Here are three men who could be added to the Liverpool squad in January…
Gabriel Barbosa (Inter Milan)
When Gabigol won an Olympic gold medal in Rio in the summer, he almost immediately flew to Milan after the celebrations were over to join Inter Milan in what was expected to be his big opportunity. It hasn’t worked out like that, barely even featuring from the bench, but the Brazilian could now be an option for Liverpool.
The left sided attacker was very highly rated whilst at Santos, with many comparing him to Neymar, and he could provide competition and depth in the Liverpool front line which has been affected by Philippe Coutinho’s absence of late.
The 20-year-old may not come cheap, having only joined for around £25 million in the summer, but with 24 goals in 81 games in Brazil, he has huge potential and could develop more under Klopp.
