Three signings Everton should still make this summer

Juan Mata

Perhaps Juan Mata is the most unrealistic one of the three suggestions, based on Jose Mourinho’s comments that the Spaniard is in his plans, surprising many onlookers given the way he has farmed him out of a previous club he has resided over.

However, stranger things have happened and Mata would be an exceptional signing for the Toffees.

The 28-year-old was sold by Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese manager’s time at Chelsea, and that could very easily happen again at United, given Mourinho’s penchant for defensive solidity and organisation.

Mata provided six goals and five assists in the Premier League last term, and of those at the club, that contribution is bettered only by Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial.

Some fans questioned the Spain international’s efforts to contribute in every single game, but there is no doubt Mata would be a great signing for almost any team in Europe.

His versatility to play either on the right, left or centre of the three supporting the striker, makes him perfect for Koeman’s 4-2-3-1 system.

The signing of Mata would surely make the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley take note of the clubs’ ambition.

Potential starting 11: Maarten Stekelenburg, Seamus Coleman, John Stones, Kalidou Koulibaly, Leighton Baines, Axel Witsel, James McCarthy, Gerard Deulofeu, Ross Barkley, Juan Mata and Romelu Lukaku.
