Three players Crystal Palace should target during the January transfer window

Ben Davies

It’s certainly been no secret that Crystal Palace are at the wrong end of the table because of their poor defending this season, rather than their poor finishing.

With 32 goals conceded in 17 matches (almost two goals a game) which sees them with the third-worst defensive record in the Premier League at present, Allardyce’s first task will be to recruit a defender to try and turn this around.

This is where Ben Davies, second-in-command to the excellent Danny Rose at Tottenham, could fit in.

Papa Souare’s car crash a few months ago, which left him with a broken leg, has left a sizable gap in the Eagles left-back position, and Davies could slot in to that role perfectly for Allardyce.

With international and Premier League experience in abundance, the 23-year-old could also bring a bit of attacking impetus to Palace, creating effective overlaps on the left side of the pitch for Zaha or Townsend to work with.

Tottenham’s Europa League campaign could mean manager Mauricio Pochettino won’t let him go, but Allardyce could be deemed foolish for not inquiring about the Welsh youngster.
