Three out-of-work bosses Tottenham could still go for, following Gattuso decision

The Athletic claim Tottenham Hotspur have made the decision to bin their approach for Gennaro Gattuso. A backlash from Spurs fans has seen Tottenham decide to look elsewhere – not long after talks with Paulo Fonseca broke down. Where could they now turn?

Managers are beginning to plan for the summer and it will be tricky to lure a boss that is currently employed. Daniel Levy might be forced to pursure managers that are currently out of work – and here are the best three options for Tottenham following the end of a potential Gattuso arrival.

Lucien Favre – left Dortmund in December 2020

Favre, 63, has a well-earned reputation as a manager that hands freedom to his attacking players. At Dortmund, he watched on as his side won 68 of their 110 games. He also impressed during a four-year stint at Gladbach and a couple of seasons at Nice. He would be a very solid appointment.

Andrea Pirlo – left Juventus in May

Pirlo, 42, is unproven. He has just overseen Juventus fail to win their first Serie A title in 10 years. But it was hardly his fault, given that Juventus are in a transition period and need a big shake up. While he might not be as experienced as Favre, he is a massive name and will surely excite fans.

Jurgen Klinsmann – left Hertha Berlin in February 2020

A Tottenham legend, Klinsmann has probably not enjoyed management as much as he enjoyed his playing career. An impressive CV, Klinsmann spent two years in the Germany job, a season at Bayern, five years at USA and then recently, 10 games at Hertha Berlin. Again, one that would excite fans.
