After their highly coveted chase for Red Bull Leipzig’s Naby Keita came to an end, Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Liverpool are still in the market for signings.
The German has already brought in Dominic Solanke from Chelsea, Scotland international Andrew Robertson and Roma’s Mohamed Salah, but he remains active.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s fixture against Crystal Palace, the manager said:
“A few things on both sides (can happen). Everything leads to the 31st of August. It’ll be a busy day, I don’t know if we will be involved.”
His comments, as reported by ESPN, suggest that Liverpool will be working to improve their squad until deadline day. After failing to sign Naby Keita, they could well be looking to strengthen their central-midfield options.
It is likely that Klopp’s side will be competing for the Premier League and in the Champions League after beating Hoffenheim 2-1 in their first qualifying leg.
With Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson currently available, more options will be needed.
So, who will Liverpool be looking to sign before the close of the window?
Jean Michael Seri
Part of Ligue 1’s surprise package last season, Jean Michael Seri was a leading figure in Nice’s third place finish. The versatile French midfielder impressed with his box-to-box style, determination and stamina in the middle of the park.
He managed six goals and nine assists for his side, the latter bettered only by Marseille’s Morgan Sanson, and he completed over 90% of his passes last campaign.
His playing style and contribution going forward make him ideal for Klopp’s side, and it is rumoured that Liverpool will be making a £20.5 million move, according to TransferMarketWeb.
The Portuguese midfielder had an indifferent debut season with Bayern Munich, failing to make his mark, despite maintaining his highly-rated status.
Sanches put in some stellar performances at the EURO Under-21 championships and links to Liverpool came shortly after. Sport Bild reported that the Bayern man was one of the Reds main alternatives for Naby Keita, yet interest has cooled in recent weeks.
The youngster certainly has the talent to operate in Klopp’s side, but it remains to be seen as to whether the German’s interest in Sanches still stands.
French newspaper Le Telegramme reported that Liverpool had readied a £15.4 million bid for Rennes midfielder Benjamin Andre, but little was made of it across the channel.
The 27-year-old has incredible vision and, despite being slightly more attacking than Naby Keita, he would be a great signing for the Reds, who lost Lucas Leiva to Lazio earlier in the window.
Purchasing Andre may be quite hard, however, with the midfielder tied down until 2022.
He is also the club captain, which is an indication of how important he is to Rennes. Yet, with the pulling power and finances Liverpool have, a deal could well be struck.
