If you’re an Italian international right back and Antonio Valencia is picked ahead of you, it is probably time to look for pastures new. Darmian caught the eye of English audiences when he starred for the Azure against England in the 2014 World Cup, and looked like being an impressive acquisition.

The former Torino right back started quite strongly at Old Trafford last season, until a harrowing experience at the Emirates when he was given twisted blood by Alexis Sanchez in a 3-0 United defeat. Darmian has never quite found his feet since that day, with Valencia occupying the right back spot for the majority of their games this season.

Mourinho typically likes his full backs to be quite circumspect, and with Luka Shaw on the opposite flank one imagines he would like a more natural defender on the right. If he doesn’t fancy Darmian, then the 26-year-old should seek a new employer and would probably get a move to a Champions League club.
