Three Liverpool-linked players that Michael Edwards could bring to Anfield in January

Liverpool could be about to enter the January window after Jurgen Klopp’s side continue to suffer from a long list of injuries, mainly at the heart of their defence – with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk fighting to play again this term.

Van Dijk and Gomez have both suffered injuries – and that has seen Fabinho move into defence while Thiago has also been on the sidelines. It means that Liverpool are not only struggling in defence, but also in midfield.

Here are three players Liverpool could sign in January, with players that can solve their defence and midfield issues.

Thievy Bissouma

The 24-year-old has become a regular for Brighton since joining the club in 2018, clocking up 70 appearances in all competitions. Indeed, his form for Brighton has gone underrated, at least until now.

The Mali international has become renowned for his passing, lung-busting stamina and even his long-range shooting. ESPN claim Bissouma is target for Liverpool to cover their midfield absentees, and could cost £30million.

Renato Sanches

Sanches, 23, has endured a strange career. A Euro 2016 winner and more than 50 appearances for Bayern, Sanches had huge potential but has failed to reach that hype – but a move to Lille has rejuvenated his career.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claim Liverpool have an agreement to sign Sanches for just £18million – with Gini Wijnaldum’s future in doubt. At such a small figure, he is a low-risk but potentially high-reward addition.

Sven Botman

Botman, 20, has emerged at Lille as a proper talent. The 6ft 4in Dutch defender swapped Ajax for Lille after failing to make a single senior outing for the Eredivisie giants – but has since played 22 times since joining in the summer.

French outlet Foot Mercato have claimed that Liverpool were willing to pay £45million – but due to Lille’s financial crisis, the Ligue 1 side are willing to accept £27million, a figure that the Reds are more than capable of paying.
