4 – Liverpool’s poor record against relegation contenders continues
Liverpool’s loss to Leicester on Monday night now means that, somewhat astonishingly, four of the Reds’ five defeats this season have come against sides that began the match in the relegation spots.
Leicester City can be added to a list that includes Swansea City, Hull City – all three of which have won against Liverpool in their last five Premier League matches – and Burnley, with their fifth defeat coming against another side in the bottom half of the Premier League table in Bournemouth.
There’s undeniably a key issue that Jurgen Klopp needs to address in his team, revolving a large amount around the mentality as Liverpool simply seem to turn up to these matches complacent about the outcome.
A huge part of it comes down to their ability to concede with worrying ease; against the current bottom six sides in the league this season Liverpool have conceded 17 times in nine matches, which is more (16) than they have conceded in their other 17 fixtures against the league’s top 14 sides.
With Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Bournemouth still to play before the season comes to a close, Klopp needs to work out and eradicate Liverpool’s frailties or face exodus from the top four.
