637 – Leicester end goal drought in style
It’s fair to say that up until last night, it hadn’t been Leicester’s year so far – no Premier League goals, no victories, and knocked out of the FA Cup humiliatingly at the hands of ten-man Millwall.
The main catalyst for the Foxes’ dramatic free-fall down the Premier League table has been their inability to find the back of the net over the past six league matches, and you could sense the huge sigh of relief at the King Power Stadium when Jamie Vardy slotted home past Simon Mignolet to end this drought.
That goal ended a run of 638 minutes without a goal – over ten hours of football – and also ended Vardy’s own personal run of 603 minutes which dates back to the middle of December.
The England striker looked sharp and confident against Liverpool, much more like his self from last season, and he gave Lucas a torrid time all match with his turn of pace beyond the half-way line.
Vardy’s return to form could prove pivotal in Leicester’s bid to avoid the dreaded drop over the upcoming months, and last night’s performance might just give him the morale boost he needed.
